Professor Axel Rominger (University of Bern, Switzerland)
Prof. Dr. Axel Rominger, MD, is full professor at the University of Bern and Chairman of the Dept. of Nuclear Medicine at Inselspital Bern. His scientific interest includes the constant improvement of the PET technology and therefore he has set up groups on biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and radiopharmaceutical research. He directs several research projects on PET imaging in the neurological and oncological field. From 2007 until 2018 he worked at Ludwig Maximilian’s University of Munich, where he served as deputy director for 5 years. During this period he won several national and international research awards. Prof. Rominger is author of more than 200 peer-reviewed publications. In October 2020 the world’s first ultra-large axial field-of-view PET scanner from Siemens was put into operation at Bern University Hospital. To accelerate research on total-body PET imaging he established numerous international collaborations.
Professor Adriaan A. Lammertsma (Amsterdam University Medical Centre, Netherlands)
Prof. Adriaan A. Lammertsma, PhD, has been active in PET research since 1979, when he joined the MRC Cyclotron Unit, Hammersmith Hospital in London. Apart from a sabbatical year at UCLA, Los Angeles, he stayed in London until 1996, at which stage he moved to the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. Over the years his research focus has been the development and application of tracer kinetic models for quantitative PET studies with applications in neurology, cardiology and oncology. He was the 2012 recipient of the Kuhl-Lassen Award from the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the 2015 recipient of the ESMI Award from the European Society of Molecular Imaging. Adriaan Lammertsma is co-author of more than 500 peer reviewed papers.
Professor Zahi A. Fayad (Mount Sinai, USA)
Zahi A. Fayad, PhD serves as the Lucy G. Moses Professor of Medical Imaging and Bioengineering at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is Professor of Radiology (vice-chair for research) and Professor of Medicine (Cardiology). He is the founding Director of the BioMedical Engineering and Imaging Institute. Dr. Fayad’s research has been dedicated to the detection and prevention of cardiovascular disease with many seminal contributions in the field of multimodality biomedical imaging (MR, CT, PET and PET/MR) and nanomedicine. Recent collaborative work has been in: 1) the study of psychosocial stress exposure in the brain, the cardiovascular system and the immune system; 2) the development of platform nanotechnology to produce nanobiologics for immunotherapy in multiple disease conditions; 3) the development of the Mount Sinai Imaging Research Warehouse (de-identified, pseudo-anonymized images and metadata) as a unique repository of radiological imaging big data for focused imaging and general healthcare research. Dr. Fayad had his engineering trainings at Bradley University (BS, Electrical Engineering ’89), the Johns Hopkins University (MS, Biomedical Engineering ‘91), and at the University of Pennsylvania (PhD Bioengineering ’96). From 1996 to 1997 he was junior faculty in the Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1997 he joined the faculty at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine as Assistant Professor in Radiology and Medicine (Cardiology).
